QwestLab Privacy Notice

Last updated: 1 September 2026

This notice explains what QwestLab collects about you, why, who sees it, and what you can ask us to do about it. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

If anything here conflicts with the Participant Media & AI Data Agreement you accepted, tell us — we would rather fix it than argue about it.

Who is responsible

QwestLab is responsible for the personal data described here. You can reach us through the contact form in the app.

What we collect

Things you tell us

  • Your name, email address, mobile number, country and the username you choose.
  • Your password, stored only as a cryptographic hash — we cannot read it.
  • Your sign-in code, if one was issued to you.
  • What you tell us in your Passport: what you can do, what equipment you have, where you can record, how much time you have.
  • Anything you write to us through the contact or support forms.

Things you record

  • The video and audio of every recording you submit. Audio is part of the recording, not an extra.
  • Technical details of each recording: device model, resolution, frame rate, duration, timestamps, and the environment you selected.

Things the service records automatically

  • Your IP address, used to limit abuse of the sign-up and sign-in forms.
  • Your browser and device details, recorded when you accept an agreement so there is a record of what you were shown.
  • Basic events about how you use the app — signing in, starting a task, submitting a recording.

Things about money

  • Your earnings, the reviews behind them, and your payout destination if you add one.

Why we use it

  • To run your account, match you to work you are eligible for, and pay you.
  • To review recordings for quality and rule compliance.
  • To build datasets used to train, test and improve artificial intelligence and robotics systems, and to license those datasets to customers — which is the purpose of the whole service, set out in the Agreement you accept before recording anything.
  • To keep the service secure and to prevent abuse.
  • To meet our legal obligations.

Who we share it with

Service providers. Companies that host, store, review or annotate data for us, under contract, and only for what we ask them to do.

Customers who license datasets. Recordings and their audio may be licensed to companies developing AI and robotics systems. Your name, email address and phone number are never included. Within a dataset you are identified by a random participant reference.

Nobody else, unless the law requires it.

If you are paid in cryptocurrency

Payouts are made in USDC on a public blockchain. Blockchain transactions are public and permanent. Anyone can see that a payment was made to your wallet address, how much, and when — and that record cannot be deleted by us or by anyone else. If you would rather not have that, do not add a crypto payout destination.

Where your data is held

Our database and processing servers are in Singapore. The app itself is served from a global content network. If you are in the Philippines or elsewhere, your data is transferred outside your country to be processed.

How long we keep it

  • Account and Passport data: while your account exists, and for as long afterwards as we need it for legal or accounting reasons.
  • Recordings you submitted and we accepted: indefinitely, because they have been licensed. That is described in the Agreement.
  • Recordings turned down or never submitted: deleted on the project's retention schedule.
  • Consent records: kept permanently and never edited, because they are the evidence of what you agreed to.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • show you what we hold about you,
  • correct anything wrong,
  • delete your account,
  • stop using data we have not already licensed,
  • explain anything in this notice.

What withdrawal cannot undo. Recordings already accepted before you withdraw may still be used, because they have been licensed to customers under the Agreement. You keep everything you earned for them. Everything not yet submitted or not yet accepted stops immediately.

If you are in the Philippines, you also have rights under the Data Privacy Act of 2012, and you can complain to the National Privacy Commission. If you are in the UK or EU, you have rights under the UK GDPR / GDPR, including the right to complain to your data protection authority.

Security

Access to your data is restricted at the database level, so one contributor cannot read another's records. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Staff access is limited to the people who need it.

If you forget your password, ask for a reset from the sign-in page and we will email a link to the address on your account. Open that link in the same browser you asked from, or it will not work. If the address you registered with was mistyped or is one you no longer read, the reset cannot reach you — use the contact form instead.

You are also given a backup sign-in code when you register. It needs no email and works on any device, so keep at least one of the two safe.

Children

QwestLab is for adults. You must be 18 or over. No one under 18 may appear in, or be heard in, any recording, ever.

Changes

If we change this notice we will publish the new version here with a new date. If a change materially affects what you agreed to, we will ask you to accept it rather than quietly replacing it.

Contact

Use the contact form in the app. Tell us it is a privacy question and it will reach the right person.
